Christine Bovill

A unique talent, Christine grew up in a house of music fanatics, immersed in folk music and rock and roll. But at an early age she became entranced by the singing of Billy Holiday and then Edith Piaf.

She has developed and matured into one of the most outstanding female singers of our time. Equally at home singing traditional folk songs, belting out jazz standards or softly purring soulful blues, Christine is also a prize winning songwriter.

Catriona Molver

Growing up in a small, North East Scottish fishing town, Catriona came to school in Glasgow where she began to study musical theatre. At the RSAMD she added acting to her list of achievements and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe, and also sang with the Jazz Band at The Stand Comedy Club.

Catriona polished her craft, working in Spain, singing in clubs and resorts then returned to Scotland to train as a teacher. Without doubt she is one of the best female vocalists around just now and SongWright is proud to be showcasing this astonishingly good young singer.

The Paul McKenna Band

Paul has a voice that will stay with you, a haunting quality that can make the most ordinary of songs memorable. Combining their love for traditional and folk music as well as original songs and tunes the Paul McKenna Band has been playing to audiences throughout the UK and Europe since 2006.

With a contemporary approach to songs, although not straying too far from their roots, their arrangements are both fresh and innovative. Their exciting sound is created through outstanding vocals, driving Guitar and Bouzouki, intense Fiddle playing, a warm pairing of Flute and Whistles and dynamic Bodhrán and percussion.

Claire & Gavin Livingstone

Glasgow-based entertainers, specialising in the comedy and tragedy of urban life as seen from the East end of country and western, Claire and Gavin adapt bluegrass, country, traditional and self-composed songs to tell tall tales and wryly observe life.

Gavin sings, writes songs, plays guitar (acoustic, electric, bass and dobro), mandolin, cittern, Indian sitar, piano, synthesisers, banjo, accordion, harmonica, Appalachian dulcimer, whistle  (not all at the same time!), records and produces folk, electronic and rock music. Claire, despite being involved in various aspects of the music scene, has only recently decided to let her voice be heard in public and brings a freshness of approach to the duo’s material.

Harmonious singing and skilful playing have delighted Scottish audiences, and a sense of enjoyment and good humour complete the package.

Dave Gibb

With a style of guitar playing that is best described as being as distinctive as it is effective, a voice that can carry traditional and contemporary songs and writing that produces songs ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, Dave is established as one of the folk scene’s major talents.

His playing has evolved into a sound and style that is all his own. Bluesy, folky, jazzy or straightforward head-down-and-bugger-the-subtlety finger picking styles are all in evidence but folk music is at the core of all he plays and writes. Equally at home on stage at a folk club, festival or concert hall, his reputation grows with each performance.

Jim King compère

An exceptional songwriter, accomplished musician, fine interpreter and warmly entertaining performer.  Jim has the experience and ability to take an audience on a journey to one of his own fascinating worlds and bring them back safely for bedtime.

Playing throughout the UK but principally in Scotland, Jim is also in demand as front man and compère for many kinds of events.
