The Glasgow Festival Of Songwriting (SongWright) was created in 2007 to promote and encourage of the art of songwriting. The organising group aim to widen the appeal of the art by running an annual festival as well as additional, specific events throughout the year.

We bring established and amateur songwriters together to showcase and celebrate the works of some of the great exponents of this art form. In addition, we offer training and opportunity to those who aspire to create and perform and we provide critical song-writing assessment and guidance. The first event in January 2007 brought people from all over the country and we know that interest is growing and that we will attract even greater numbers as we continue with the project.

Songwriting as an art form gets little recognition, there are many highly talented, yet relatively unknown writers and we seek to give them the encouragement and recognition their works deserve.  Scotland has a strong history of song and by raising the profile of this art form we aim to give today’s writers the opportunity to have their works heard and hence the opportunity to reach a wider audience.  At minimum, we aim to raise the confidence and self esteem of all aspiring songwriters

Our song-writing workshops and master classes have proved to be a great success and the participants gained significant inspiration and encouragement. Many have gone on to create and perform their own works, on stage, at clubs and festivals. All are welcome and anyone who has an interest can get involved.
